Education & Outreach
Our lab approaches teaching and outreach similar to how we approach research, emphasizing field observations, lab experiments, statistical analyses, and data synthesis.
Fall: EEES 2760 Field Methods Lab
Spring: EEES 2600 Analytical Techniques
Fall (even years): Special Topics - Art, Algae, and the Environment
Fall (odd years): Special Topics - Molecular Ecology
Our lab is engaged in a variety of mentorship across career stage. PI Spanbauer and her graduate students work with undergraduates through the Departmental Honors program, EEES 4910 Directed Research, and Undergraduate Research Fellowships. PI Spanbauer also mentors M.Sc. students, Ph.D students, and postdoctoral researchers.
Lab members are involved with a variety of community outreach and engagement. PI Spanbauer regularly participates in Skype-a-Scientist and outreach with the Girl Scouts of America. The lab also runs the ERIeDNA program, a community science focused environmental DNA collection campaign.
